Lasik and Relex Smile

Lasik and Relex Smile

What is LASIK ?

Laser-assisted in-situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) is a procedure that uses a laser to correct refractive errors by reshaping the cornea to improve vision.

This well-known, highly precise form of surgery corrects the shape of your cornea to help you achieve better vision.

This procedure is used to correct short-sightedness, long-sightedness, and astigmatism.

What is RELEX SMILE ?

This is a minimally invasive procedure to correct short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism.

In Lasik, a small flap is created in the side of the cornea. The flap is lifted to give the surgeon access to reshape the cornea with an excimer laser. The flap is then closed.

With the RELEX SMILE procedure, a small corneal lenticule is cut by the laser and removed from the eye to change the corneal curvature. No flap is created and the wound heals much faster.

Advantages of RELEX SMILE

  1. Minimally invasive (a flapless, bladeless and painless procedure)
  2. Small incision of less than 4mm
  3. Reduced risk of developing dry eye
  4. Reduced risk of infection and flap complications
  5. Better predictability when correcting higher refractive power
  6. Can maintain corneal strength and integrity
